The Life and Works of Patrick Lewis

My name is Patrick Lewis but I go by the name Pucky. Nobody really knows why. I graduated with a BFA in Computer Animation from Ringling SCHOOL of Art and Design and now I’m a graphic designer or photographer. I’m usually only one or the other, but some clients prefer me to be both. I’ve spent the last 18 months working as a graphic designer for a successful non-for-profit healthcare organization. They gave me many freedoms, for which I’m very grateful for, including exploring my photography. I’ve decided to further dedicate my efforts to a concentration in photography. I love to travel just for the sake of being able to shoot something I don’t get to see often.

“If at first the idea is not absurd,
then there is no hope for it.” -Einstein

This single quote defines me. My mind is always running in many directions at once. The right way to do something only works for me the first time. From then on, I attempt to do it my own way. I always find many ways to do it wrong before I get it right. BUT, its those failures that make the learning experience that much better.

“I know that many will call
this useless work.” -Leonardo da Vinci

I often find it hard for me to explain my ideas to others. My process is something of which may be very confusing but the final product is clear and understandable. I love this quote because Leonardo knew that society did not understand his work. His work was not conceivable but the product was unquestionable.

“The creative urge is the demon that will
not accept anything second rate.” -Agnes De Mille

As an artist, I aim to do my own personal best, be my own worst critic, and call it finished when nothing else can be added or taken away.

Besides all that, when I’m not shooting, I’m probably out on my boat. I’m a very avid fisherman. I build my own fishing rods and apprentice under a good friend and one of the best rod builders in the country, Jim Gamble (www.dudleyrods.com). I mostly enjoy the offshore bite as opposed to inshore. I’m limited to the size of my boat though. I usually don’t go further than 10 miles offshore, but I have been known to take my 19 footer out over 30 miles. I spend most offshore time targeting grouper and kingfish. I’ve really learned to enjoy kingfishing for the sport of it because it takes alot of knowledge and faith in your gear to finesse it in to the boat.
